Don’t forget to pack the sunscreen, it’ll be warm, but fun at some of the locations…

Klyde Warren Park

As Dallas began to redefine downtown, Klyde Warren Park became a centerpiece. Located above Woodall Rodgers Freeway, the park is a great place to take kids during any season.

Klyde Warren Park has food trucks, a splash pad, plenty of green space, and lots of activities for the kids to do (check out their family activity guide).

My kids love it, and yours will too. Find out more information here.

Dallas Zoo

What kid doesn’t love a trip to the zoo. Ok, maybe some, but for those that like to see all the animals that the world has to offer, the Dallas Zoo is a great place to take the grandchildren in Dallas.

The zoo was founded in 1888 with just two deer and two mountain lions. Today the zoo has over 2,000 animals and some amazing exhibits.

Dallas Arboretum

You don’t have to go with kids who love flowers to enjoy the Dallas Arboretum, although that is definitely a plus.

The Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is located near White Rock Lake on 66 acres that include a complete life science laboratory for kids and many family programs.

Plus, the flowers and other vegetation is beautiful no matter the time of year. I enjoy going in the spring or fall to avoid the heat, but it is always a day well spent. And it will wear the kids out and make them fall asleep on the ride home. When you need places to take the grandchildren in Dallas, don’t forget this location.

Sixth Floor Museum

Your younger grandkids won’t care about the Sixth Floor Museum, but the older kids might. The Sixth Floor Museum is dedicated to the memory of President John F. Kennedy who was “allegedly” assassinated from a window on the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository by Lee Harvey Oswald.

The museum has all sorts of artifacts and collections surrounding JFK’s life, presidency, death, and more.

Perot Museum of Nature and Science

Simply put, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science is amazing. There is so much to do there that you can’t get it all in during one visit, but you’ll happily come back a second and third time.

It is located in Dallas on the north side of Woodall Rodgers Freeway, and its proximity to Klyde Warren Park can allow you to do both things on the same day.

The museum has so many features that kids of all ages and interests can find something they like. My oldest son loves racing the T-Rex on the bottom floor.

What About Staying In?

What if it rains, or what if everyone is tired and just wants to stay in? Everyone run to the electronics! Ha, no, we don’t want that. If the kids are over, then I want to spend time with them. But yes, staying inside can get boring for kids.

Something I have found that I love is the book 101 Kids Activities That Are The Bestest, Funnest Ever!.

This book is full of great activities with age specific variations to keep everyone busy during the summer, weekend, or whenever.

Check it out.
